In 1815, Gütersloh became Prussian as part of the province of Westphalia. This was a good development for the town: Over the next 50 years, the tranquil church village became a prosperous town with a rail link and grammar school. Against this background, it is not surprising that the majority of Gütersloh's middle classes had great sympathy for Hohenzollern rule.
The city tour takes you to lost and still visible reminders of Gütersloh's "Prussian era", explains the Dalkestadt's close ties to two crowned heads and speculates that even Gütersloh's reputation as the "Protestant Nazareth" would not have been established without the Prussian monarchy.
Speaker: Dr. Franz Jungbluth.
