Gütersloh has had a psychiatric hospital for just over 100 years, which deliberately broke with the large detention centers of the 19th century when it opened. Instead of large barracks buildings, the patients were accommodated in pavilion-like houses in the middle of a spacious park. This is still preserved today and a walk through the grounds shows the developments in terms of content, organization and construction that have shaped Gütersloh psychiatry over the course of its hundred-year history. The darkest chapter - the deportation of over 1,000 patients to killing centers during the Nazi era - has been commemorated since 2014 by a memorial in the clinic's own Kreuzkirche, a visit to which is also part of the tour. Speaker: Dr. Franz Jungbluth.
