St. Martin's weekend

St. Martin's weekend

Every year on St. Martin's weekend, the first weekend in November, we bring light to the city centre. The beautiful light installation bathes Berliner Straße in atmospheric splendour throughout the winter season.

St. Martin's procession

The St. Martin's procession will parade through the city centre this year on Thursday, November 11. It starts at 5:30 p.m. with the starting point in front of the theatre on Hans-Werner-Henze-Platz. With their lanterns, the children light the way and, together with St. Martin, parade past Dreiecksplatz and along Münsterstraße. In the glow of the winter light and the illuminated trees in Berliner Straße, the route then continues to Konrad-Adenauer-Platz.

The famous spectacle around the sharing of the coat, which takes place this year in front of the town hall, is intended to be a reminder of the goodness and helpfulness of the soldier Martin. Felix Flörkemeier, dressed as a freezing beggar, receives the coat from St. Martin, who is played again by Rainer Hülsmann.

On Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, the Fritzenkötter Bakery & Confectionery will be offering St. Martin's pretzels and children's punch.

A security service and the Gütersloh police will provide security for the procession.
